Breeders' Cup - Pre-Entry Day

With the release of the official list of who is going to run in the Breeders' Cup next week at Santa Anita, we can finally begin the over analysis of the two best days of racing (in terms of quality.)

Over the next few days, I'll break down all the races one by one but here a few quick thoughts of the races.

The Classic could be one of the better in recent memory if the unbeaten Zenyatta joins the fray. She's entered in both this race and the Ladies Classic but her connections are leaning towards meeting the boys for the first time. If she is able to wrap up her career a perfect 14-for-14, she'll have to beat the likes of Belmont and Travers winner Summer Bird and Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird among others. This should be a great betting race.

If Zenyatta does opt to run against the big boys, the Ladies Classic will be another wide open race which could only have seven horses. But all of them have a chance to win.

It's great to see some returning BC champs on the card including Turf champ Conduit, and Mile victress Goldikova, both Euro invaders. The Euros should be very tough again this year and they always win a race when you least expect it.

Not sure we will see the next Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby winner in either of Juvenile races. As usual, deep fields in those events but no standouts.

As for the other races, they will present plenty of handicapping challenges but isn't that one of the fun things about Breeders' Cup?
